Denise’s Story
There’s no higher praise for our Homeless Intervention Program than that of our recent graduate, Denise. “I want to personally thank the Lexington Rescue Mission for helping me get back on my feet and for being there when I needed it the most.”
Once Denise found temporary shelter at the local Salvation Army, she began looking for help.
“My very first phone call to the Mission was warm and welcoming,” she remembers. “I was invited to come have a meal. I was offered clothing and shoes. I didn’t feel judged. The Mission provided me with different resources and assistance from day one! I was so overwhelmed with joy that I came to the Mission almost every day.”
Through your support, Denise was blessed with a stable full-time job. Her next goal was to find permanent, stable housing. “Getting my own place again was dancing in the back of my mind, but I knew it was going to take some hard work and dedication from me to stay afloat,” she says. “I continued to attend housing classes and eventually completed the Homeless Intervention Program.”
“The Mission will be there for you as long as you really want a change,” she says. “I am a witness to that.” Denise moved into her own place last November a moment that sticks in her memory. “I was crying tears of joy to finally have my own place again,” she says. “It felt even better sticking the key in the door, opening the door, and knowing that this is my place. God has blessed me with this. I was overwhelmed, too, because the Mission also helped me with furniture.”
“I can’t express enough gratitude and thankfulness to my God for His love and this organization,” she continues. “When I think of the word ‘rescue,’ it means: FREEDOM-SAVED-HELPED-HEALED- ENCOURAGED-ANOTHER CHANCE-HOPEFUL-SUPPORT, and so much more! This is what the Lexington Rescue Mission is all about.”
Thank you for providing Denise with a new start through your prayers and support!
