Angela’s Story

LERM NL

After nearly 30 years in and out of addiction, Angela has found a home like the one she grew up in.

“I grew up in a normal household. My parents didn’t drink. They never did drugs. We went to church every Sunday. I got baptized at a young age. Everything was normal.”

Her journey into addiction started when a friend at a party introduced Angela to crack. “She was like, ‘Hey, come into the bedroom with me.’ So, I went into this bedroom. I thought I had been there only a few minutes, but I came out after being in there for hours.”

From there, her addiction went from one substance to another. Crack, alcohol, meth, and finally fentanyl and heroin. “I just substituted one for the other,” she remembers. “Anything that was mind-altering, I got into to make me feel good. I just lost myself. I quit associating myself with God.”

Eventually, Angela lost everything she owned and ended up homeless.

“God kept telling me to go home, but I just didn’t know how to get home,” she says. “One day I decided I’d had enough, and I made the phone call to Isaiah House, and they had a bed.”

Then two months later, Angela came to Grace Place, where your support helped her continue her healing journey.

“It’s based on Christian principles, and that’s what I needed,” she says. “I’ve reestablished my relationship with God. I have a sponsor. I’m working the steps. I’m rebuilding my relationship with my family. A lot of good things have happened. I’ve found a place I can call home.”

“Grace Place has brought me back my serenity. I feel like I belong somewhere, because I felt like I didn’t belong for many years.” And to partners like you who help make Grace Place possible through your support, Angela says,

“I absolutely thank the people who support the Mission from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to come here and giving me the opportunity to get God back in my life. I’m very grateful for that.”

Because of your support, lives like Angela’s are being transformed.
