Housing Counselor Positions Open

We are recruiting applicants for two Housing Counselors, who will serve at Lexington Rescue Mission as full-time AmeriCorps members through the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky (HHCK)'s Homes for all program.

One of the AmeriCorps members will coordinate our Homeless Intervention Program, which provides case management and rent assistance to people who are currently homeless and trying to secure housing. This person will also help connect other walk-in guests with community resources and tracking outcomes.

The other AmeriCorps member will serve in our re-entry program, assisting ex-offenders who are homeless in securing housing. The assistance provided will include housing-focused case management and financial assistance. This housing counselor will be responsible for keeping up with grant reports for this program.

These positions will begin September 1, 2018 and end August 31, 2019.


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Professional or academic background related to social services
  • Direct service experience in social work or human services
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, empathy, and compassion
  • Capacity to be flexible and handle conflict
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities or mental illness
  • Ability to maintain clients' privacy and confidentiality
  • Computer skills and internet literacy
  • Spanish fluency helpful

*Past AmeriCorps members have served in this position while pursuing their Master's degree, and this position was suitable for their practicum requirements.

Compensation includes: $13,732 annual living allowance through AmeriCorps; health insurance; student loan deferment; childcare assistance; and $5,920 education award upon successful completion of service.
