AmeriCorps VISTA opening

Lexington Rescue Mission is seeking qualified candidates to serve full-time through AmeriCorps VISTA. This AmeriCorps VISTA member will serve as a Mentor Coordinator, working to expand and strengthen our base of volunteer mentors who prepare ex-offenders to make a smooth transition back to the community.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Mentor Coordinator will serve 40 hours/week at LRM under the Homes for All program, operated by the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky. This is a one-year commitment of service, starting in June. 

Responsibilities:

  • Build a communication system that effectively bridges the gap between volunteer mentors and staff.
  • Improve the services we provide to ex-offenders at risk of homelessness by training our volunteers.
  • Recruit volunteers to serve in Breaking Chains, our ex-offender re-entry program, as mentors.

Qualifications:

Personal
Self-starter, strong team player, connects with people, able to manage multiple priorities, and is passionate about the ministry of the Lexington Rescue Mission.

Education and Experience
Associates or Bachelor's degree and previous experience working with volunteers is preferred. Supervisory experience is helpful.

Knowledge
Understanding of effective volunteer management strategies.

Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to manage individual volunteers and groups of volunteers; and ability to develop and implement short-term and long-range plans. Driving for Mission business within Central Kentucky is required.

The VISTA member will receive a monthly stipend of $973 from HHCK, and upon completion of their term of service, the VISTA member will receive an education award of $5,730 to apply toward tuition or student loans.
