If you know anyone who’s been in jail, you know that even after “serving your time,” things don’t get easier. For far too many, being released means hardship, homelessness and very real problems finding work.
Nobody knows this better than Charlie.
“I was saved and gave my life to Jesus while I was in prison. He’s bestowed blessings on me. But when I got out, I just didn’t know how I was going to start over.”
It was our Jobs for Life program that got Charlie back on the right track. “It’s taught me a lot – how to do interviews, to have a better work ethic, and just to be a better person overall.” Charlie was still in the Jobs for Life program when we placed him in a part-time job through our staffing service, Advance Lexington. After he graduated, he moved to full-time and was hired on permanently!
Jobs for Life is not the only program that helps people get back on their feet. We also helped Charlie get a copy of his birth certificate and an ID so he could begin applying for work, and clothing so he could look his best for interviews.
“Today I have a savings account – money in the bank – something I’ve never had before. I’ve got a job, and a place to go if I’m hungry and need a meal.”
“The Mission helped me big-time,” he says. “And that’s a real blessing!”
